Great little hotel on the outskirts

Twice I've stay here now as my first experience was such a pleasant stay I had to see if it was a one off but no the hotel and staff are both well presented the room was big for a hotel in Amsterdam the location is a little out of the centre about a 15 min walk from dam square which is just far enough for a peaceful night rest and the beds are some of the most comfortable hotel beds I've had, thank you

Not worth the 320€/night

+ Nice and peaceful location near metro and tram stations, also good restaurants nearby + Cozy and beautifully decorated rooms + Comfortable bed - We got small double room and it was not worth the 320€/night we paid (booked from hotel’s own website). I understand that some events and seasons may increase room prices but they still should match the hotel’s standard and this definitely didn’t. - Breakfast was average, plates were set ready on tables (1 per quest) and when we asked if we could get one extra plate (for bread and pastries) the waiter said only ”no”. - Room was quite hot and humid during the day and there was some sort of black mold on bathroom seams. - We used their luggage storage, the receptionist opened the storage room door where we placed the luggage on the shelves ourselves, we got no tags etc and when we left we picked the luggage again ourselves while the receptionist waited outside. This didn’t feel safe because this way you could easily take anyones luggage from the room. For us this wasn’t worth the money and also the hotel is not worth of 4 stars.

Would not recommend or re visit

Reception staff were friendly but the rest of the time we wasn't very often greeted with a smile on our return ever day, we arrived early and our room was ready, bonus or so we thought, but on entering our room we were not convinced we had been given the room we'd paid for which was a superior king as the room was quite small and to add to it there was a tatty floor lamp taking up valuable space. After inspecting the room, areas were dirty/grimy, dust on lights and switches, dirty fridge, which didn't even keep drinks cold, stains on carpet and shower door was mouldy around the bottom, the list is endless really. The aircon was either rubbish or broke as we couldn't get the room cool enough, so had to have the window open (for what it was worth only opened about an inch) for our whole stay. There was no way of contacting reception even though there was a phone in the room but with not info, we did try the obvious numbers but it just kept giving us the engaged tone. Now the bed was the worst part of the stay, it seemed to be 2 single sofa beds or similar pushed together with about a 2inch mattress topper on top ( I use the word mattress loosely as it was just foam on the sofa bed or what ever they were), then as the night went on they moved apart so we ended up rolling together as there was nothing to keep the sofa mattresses connected, every morning we woke up with back ache and the pillows were rubbish too. Breakfast was good but only having bacon and scrambled or boiled eggs at the hot station was a bit boring after a bit so some sausage or beans would of been nice too. Hotel was in a good location, just outside the city centre but with good tram connections into the city a short walk away. We would not recommend this hotel or ever return unfortunately.

Lovely Hotel!

We stayed at the Lancaster Monday - Thursday on a short city break and absolutely loved our accommodation. The hotel is just a 15 minute or so walk to all the main attractions, or you can catch the tram round the corner if you prefer. It's a very pretty, leafy area and has plenty of nice little cafe's and bars around it but is quiet at night. Our room on the fourth floor was clean and comfortable, the bathroom small but not an issue. We enjoyed breakfast, there was plenty of choice whatever time you arrived and all the hotel staff we encountered were really friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again!
